“As a self-employed gardener I need to be able to get to houses around Southend quickly and easily, but I also have quite a lot of equipment to take with me.
“I have always tried to support public transport as I think it’s a better way of getting around than everybody driving their own car, so used to take the bus or train to all my jobs. However, I was spending quite a bit of money on travel so about a year ago I decided to look at other options, and that’s when I got my electric bike.
“The electric bike has been fantastic! I don’t travel huge distances every day – maximum 25 miles – but it would be quite tough on my legs pulling all my tools around, so it’s great that the electric bike can carry the weight of all my equipment in its trailer. It has a 1kw battery so only costs around 15p to charge, and with that I can travel up to 60km at 20km/hour.
“Although the electric bike wasn’t cheap, it’s worth it for the power and quality. Plus I reckon I’ve saved around £1500 in bus and train fares around town, which is certainly more than I paid for the bike!”
