Route 68 will enter service on Monday 24th July, as part of a 6 week trial period by Go Ahead London.
Starting outside Adventure Island (west side of the pier by the Three Shells), the route- which will run hourly and operate on all days of the week until September 2nd- will head west along the esplanade passing the cafes of Westcliff and the old shelter in Chalkwell, tightly squeezing under the bridge within Chalkwell, then head along the Grand Parade to Leigh-on-Sea Station, with a stop just prior- opposite the Ship Pub; allowing customers to access the footbridge to the Old High Street and Bell Wharf Beach.
After serving Leigh-on-Sea Station, the route will then circle up the hill to the main part of Leigh-on-Sea- the Post Office and Broadway- to serve the local community there.
Finally, no.68 will head back to Southend pier, continuing onto the historic Kursaal where it will spin around to terminate back at Adventure Island.
The service will start at 10am, on both weekdays and weekends, with tickets priced in the following way:
- Adult single: £2
- Child/Senior single: £1
- Adult return: £3
- Child/Senior return: £1.50
