A new project in Southend-on-Sea is hoping to make our streets a nicer place to walk.
The Pocket Places for People project aims to explore unused or poorly used pockets of space along Queensway and London Road and transform them into more welcoming, people-friendly and vibrant community spaces. Creating spaces that feel safer, more familiar and friendly is likely to make healthier, more sustainable and cheaper journeys the preferred choice.
Working with the local community, Pocket Places for People will identify spaces that people use during their daily journeys and look at ways of improving or using them differently to make people the priority.
A community engagement and design process has been adopted and is focused on meeting local aspirations for improved daily journeys.
