Question: What does Southend-on-Sea have in common with Kortrijk in Belgium?
Answer: It’s love of cycling.
People in Kortrijk cycle to get fit, save money and enjoy the fresh air, just like bike lovers in Southend. And last summer both towns held bike parades to celebrate cycling as part of the Bike Friendly Cities initiative.
Adam Blackwell and Sam Hadden, A-level students at Shoeburyness High School, were on hand to capture the best bits of both days, and produced this short film for Ideas in Motion. Check out the video and you may be surprised to see how much you have in common with the cycling enthusiasts of Belgium.

The Bike Friendly Cities project joins cities across Europe with the aim of expanding and exchanging knowledge about cycling. For more information on Bike Friendly Cities have a look at the project’s website.
Thanks again to Adam and Sam, and we hope you enjoy the video.
