At the start of April, the South Essex Active Travel (SEAT) team helped Barry, a long term jobseeker, gain access to employment by helping him choose the train to get to work. Barry got personalised travel planning (PTP) from SEAT which suggested he could use the train to access employment but as a jobseeker that was something Barry was struggling to do. To help Barry take the advice of his PTP we were able to provide an active travel incentive of a taster season ticket to get him started on the train.
Barry was delighted to receive the ticket. He said:
“This ticket will help me get to and from my new job. I wouldn’t be able to travel by train until I get my first pay packet. Now, when I do, I’ll be able to afford my own season ticket. SEAT has really helped me get back on my feet.”
Iain Banks, Travel Engagement Manager in the SEAT team, commented:
“I am so pleased that we could help Barry. Through the SEAT project we are providing lots of people like Barry with targeted travel advice and promoting the use of public transport, walking and cycling. We want to help jobseekers across south Essex access new jobs, education and training opportunities available in the area.”
