Thanks to the South Essex Active Travel (SEAT) programme, cycle parking is now offered free of charge (until March 2018) in partnership with ParkThatBike. Free cycle stands will be offered to businesses within Southend, Thurrock, and Essex, who’s staff, visitors or customers arrive by bike. All successful applicants will also receive up to 60 copies of ParkThatBike’s book ‘Bike Healthy’ free of charge. Please note that your organisation will be responsible for the installation.
Organisations can apply for one of the following:
- Up to 4 Sheffield-type cycle stands:
The classic cycle stand favoured by most cyclists. Cyclists can simply lean their bikes either side, and then lock up using a D-lock or cable lock. Each stand holds two bikes neatly and securely.
- Up to 2 heart shaped cycle stands:
All bikes deserve a little love! This stylish and eye-catching alternative to the regular Sheffield stand makes a powerful statement. Perfect for surgeries, fitness centres, and additional places where the focus is on health and physical activity.
- Up to 4 wall-mounted rails:
In places where there is insufficient space to fit stands in the ground, or where the property owner controls the building but not the land around it (shops with no frontage for example) wall-mounted cycle parking is the perfect solution.
- One Toast-Rack unit:
Useful in places where sinking stands into the ground is not possible.
- Up to 2 PlantLocks:
Safe and tidy bike storage for two bikes. Cyclists can lock their bike up to the rails either side of the tub which, once filled with soil, can be planted with flowers, herbs or even salad crops! When filled, the tub weighs approximately 70-plus kilos making it very difficult to move- for added security it can even be bolted to the ground through its drainage holes. As with Toast-racks, PlantLocks have the advantage of being quick, easy, and cheap to install with no digging or disruption – something which often presents an issue.
All organisations within South Essex with staff, visitors or customers who arrive by bike are welcome to apply for cycle parking. Because after all, employers have a lot to gain from cycling: it means less traffic congestion and fewer delays, greater staff productivity, and lower rates of absenteeism. Efficient cycle parking also sends out a strong message that an employer is doing their bit to promote active and healthy travel, whilst also helping to keep workplaces safe and tidy, in addition to reducing the likelihood of bikes being stolen or damaged.
