Local travel writer Stephen Neale has created a series of cycle guides to take you on a journey to find the ‘lost lanes’ of King Henry VIII and explore the Essex countryside he visited in the 1500s.
The ‘Henry’s Lost Lanes’ guides send Henry 200 years into the future to learn about Essex in May 1754. Each guide covers a different area in Essex and has four off-road bike rides for you to try, along with a fun fictional story about Henry, who is trying to make his way home after being transported to 1754. Guides are available for cycle routes in Rochford, Southend, Basildon and Castle Point.
You can find the guides in The Comfy Saddle in Southend on Sea, or order them at Mapsnaps
