Enjoy tweed and reeds at two family fun cycle rides taking place in south Essex next month. On Sunday, 16 September, dress up in your best tweed and vintage gear for Southend’s annual Tweed Ride. The following Sunday (23 September), explore the restored cycle ways of Thurrock’s Thameside Nature Park. Enjoy coastal habitats, reedbeds and stunning views across the Thames Estuary. Dressing up is also encouraged.
Both community rides will be led by qualified cycle instructors. More details about the two events are provided below. You can book your place by emailing SEAT@southend.gov.uk.
Southend on Sea
Sunday, 16 September 2018, 1.15pm to 3.15pm
Bring your tweed outfits, your vintage and retro bikes and your family to the Southend on Sea Tweed Ride. The event starts at Belfairs Woodland Centre at 2pm. Not-for-profit social enterprise Bikeworks will be there from 1.15pm providing free bike health checks for Tweed Ride participants. The ride finishes at Southchurch Park at approximately 3.15pm. Cream teas will be available from Southchurch Park café on the day at a cost of £3.50.
Thameside Nature Park Cycle Ride
Sunday, 23 September 2018, 1pm to 2pm
This cycle ride starts and finishes in Thameside Nature Park, setting off at 1pm. There are lots of diverse habitats for you to discover, including coastal mudflats and saltmarsh, grassland, new and ancient woodlands and a lake. After completing the ride, head to the café at the Thameside Nature Park Visitor Centre for some light refreshments.
