Have you heard about the shareconomy, the term used to describe markets in which individuals provide goods and services to customers through companies such as AirBNB and Uber? Well, one aspect that we think could be perfect for us Southenders is car-sharing.
Sharing every journey with somebody might sound like a bit too much. But sharing just one car journey a week could boost the size of your wallet, and your contact book! If everybody who drives to work and back every day shared just one journey a week we’d see a huge reduction in the number of cars on the roads, meaning we could all get there a bit quicker. Plus, sharing just one ten mile journey a week could save you around £100 a year!
Teaming up with work colleagues is probably the easiest way to car-share. If you know somebody else in the office who lives in the same direction as you, why not alternate driving and pick each other up one day a week? It’s that easy.
Alternatively, if you don’t already know someone you could car-share with, you can use sites like joinmyjourney, Faxi and Liftshare to buddy up with other friendly folk. Liftshare even has a handy savings calculator that can help you calculate how much money you can save by car-sharing.
So why not give car-sharing a try? Find somebody to buddy up with or sign up for one of the apps and see how much money you could save.
