SEAT travel engagement officers were in Basildon last month (from 15 to 18 May) providing active travel advice to DST employees. DST is a financial services organisation and major employer in the area. Individuals were offered personalised travel plans to help them think about the way they travel and encourage them to consider alternative transport options. Lots of people found that they could travel to work by walking, cycling and taking public transport instead of using a car.
It was a very interactive event. DST employees had the opportunity to mix up delicious smoothies on a pedal powered smoothie bike. It quickly turned into a competition with people trying to see who could blend a smoothie the fastest. There were plenty of giveaways and a competition for people to enter. Two lucky employees both won a £50 ‘One4all’ gift card.
Walking experts Simply Stride ran walking workshops to show employees how walking can help to ease aches and pains. Simply Stride use an approach inspired by yoga and mindfulness techniques. The sessions were a big hit with everyone who took part in them.
SEAT’s engagement with DST was led and organised by Michelle Coughlan, Travel Engagement Officer. Michelle commented:
“We had a successful week at DST. The employees were really engaged and I had some great conversations with people about their commute to work. We provided lots of travel advice and information and delivered over 50 personalised travel plans. The smoothie bike was also very popular and created a very healthy competition amongst employees. I am hopeful that many of them will choose different transport options and travel more actively as a result of our visit”.
